Guided Tour: Designing Playful Cities

  • MODA 1315 Peachtree Street Northwest Atlanta, GA, 30309 United States (map)

Join us for a guided tour of MODA's Designing Playful Cities exhibition with the exhibit curator, Janelle Miniter!

As our cities become more and more densely populated, we must design spaces for play into them. MODA’s exhibition, Designing Playful Cities, takes visitors through interactive installations that present a strong case for designing play into urban environments, encourage visitors of all ages to engage in play in their day-to-day activities, and inspire designers and developers to create playful spaces in our cities, whether by designing proper playgrounds for children or by converting under-utilized spaces into fun and friendly places.

Curator: Janelle Miniter / Exhibition Advisor: Cynthia Gentry / Exhibition Designer: Susan Sanders

Installations in this Exhibition Include:

  • Delirious Frites by Les Astronautes
  • Kit of Imagination by Urban Conga
  • Spun Chair by Thomas Heatherwick

Working alongside MODA's executive director, Janelle supports the planning, scheduling, construction, and evaluation of MODA exhibits and helps set exhibit philosophy, goals, and guidelines.

Prior to joining MODA, she worked at the Zuckerman Museum of Art in multiple capacities gaining experience in the curatorial field, visitor services, collection handling, and exhibition install/deinstall. With a B.A. in Art History, History, and a Global Engagement Certificate with Distinction from Kennesaw State University, Janelle's research focused on the Russian Constructivist movement, a highly influential design movement dedicated to improving lives through functional artistic production. When she's not in the MODA galleries, you can find Janelle exploring art museums and traveling abroad.
