“In her hands, there’s revolutions!” - Bikini Kill
Join us on May 27 from 3 – 5:30 p.m. and learn how to express yourself through zines! Zines are self-circulated, self-published books that were created to represent subcultures, discuss issues, and share experiences not expressed in mainstream media.
From subversive printing practices, to the riot grrl movement, to contemporary zine movements, we’ll understand how zine making started and the philosophy of social justice that it embodies. Then, we’ll get hands-on, cutting and folding our way to making a one-page zine. No computer needed here - only your passion and imagination. You’ll learn all about how the zine movement started, why they’re important, and how to continue making them. You’ll even get a zine full of tips at the end of the workshop.
Participation and Materials Fee: $15 for non-members, $10 for MODA members.
This fee covers everything you need to create and bring home your own awesome zine: a how-to zine, sample zines, folding directions, the riot grrl manifesto, and everything you need to create your own zine in-class. It also includes admission to MODA’s current exhibition, Designing Playful Cities.
Appropriate for ages 14+. Please reach out to the facilitator, Jess Lewis if you have questions or accessibility needs.
If you must cancel your plans, please notify us at least 7 days prior to the event start to receive a refund of the ticket cost minus a $10 processing fee per class.
