THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT.
Learn a new way to celebrate feminist icons at MODA on Thursday, February 1st from 5:30-8 p.m. Because these incredible people deserve to be celebrated and channelled as we launch into the new year, we’re having a special edition of MODA’s subversive cross-stitch workshop where we'll be stitching feminist icons.
Cross-stitch is a type of embroidery in which the needlework creates images that look pixelated. Traditionally a way for society to measure a woman’s marriageability, cross-stitch has recently become a vehicle for craftivism (craft activism) and used to assert diverse identities and demand social change. Grab a needle and thread and fabric and join us in this special cross stitch class!
You’ll learn about how cross-stitch got to be subversive, cross-stitching basics, design creation, and how to bring that design into reality. Bring your passion and we’ll provide the hoops, needles, embroidery floss, and patterns of feminist icons.
Participation and Materials Fee: $35 for non-members, $30 for MODA members. Or, bring along a friend and pay $50 for a Buddy Pack for Two Adults. This fee covers everything you need to create and bring home your own awesome cross stitch: 4" hoop, AIDA cloth, needle, threader, embroidery floss, and many patterns of feminist icons to choose from. Fee includes admission to MODA’s current exhibition, Text Me: How We Live In Language. Appropriate for ages 16+. Please reach out to the facilitator, Jess Lewis if you have questions or accessibility needs.
If you must cancel your plans, please notify us at least 7 days prior to the event start to receive a refund of the ticket cost minus a $10 processing fee per class. Refunds are not available if we are notified less than 7 days prior to the event start. Refunds are not available if you fail to notify us or attend the event. MODA reserves the right to cancel a program if registration for the event does not meet the minimum enrollment requirements. If MODA cancels a program, a full refund will be issued to all registrants.
