Be more than just a player! Join MODA as we take on game design and create our own adventure, strategy games within the museum.
Based on the popularity of traditional escape rooms in which players must solve a series of puzzles to unveil a secret plot within a room, participants will be challenged to design an in-exhibition puzzle game in which players will be tasked to open a lockbox using hints from content within MODA’s galleries. Before prototyping, participants will investigate the gallery that they will be designing in. They will understand what design constraints exist, and brainstorm what forms of logic and what types of puzzles would best be suited for their game. Working collaboratively with others, participants will prototype their game using materials from MODA’s Design Cart, like pipe cleaners, paper, tape, etc. At the end of the workshop, we will test the game inside of the exhibition, and discuss what worked and didn’t.

Blair Banks, Education Coordinator
Blair strives to combine her studies of race and ethnicity with design in order to create programming for children that is not only relevant to their experiences, but also presents them with ideas that originate beyond their backyards. She crafts unique field trip experiences that support and reinforce classroom learning through hands on activities, and tours of MODA's rotating exhibitions. Blair also heads up MODA's Education Partnerships – a series of meaningful collaborative efforts between MODA and various schools and organizations that strive to incorporate design as a problem solving tool for addressing 21st century challenges.
