Minecraft: How to Control your World with Code (K-2)

For students in grades K-2

Friday April 7, 2017 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at MODA

We’ve designed a camp that will allow younger designers to play computer Minecraft in a developmentally-friendly way by using it as a tool for designing and building worlds.

Working in peaceful, daylight only Minecraft worlds, campers will learn to code in Minecraft’s command line. By doing so, campers will learn more about how computers think and will improve their math skills by using the heads-up displays and the debug screen.

Campers will learn how to use code and syntax will be filled with different Minecraft related activities and will challenge participants to use Minecraft in design-specific ways that are different from standard game-play. With a focus on design, the goal is for campers to finish the day enriched with new ways of using Minecraft and how to control their worlds with code.  The computer programming basics they will learn are the perfect foundation for learning javascript coding.

Skills you will learn:

  • How to use Minecraft on computers

  • Keyboarding and other computer skills

  • How to navigate Minecraft worlds using XYZ coordinates

  • Basics of computer script programming

  • Collaborative design in Minecraft servers

Enrolled in this camp before? No problem! We'll pick up where you left off so your camper can keep making and learning.

MODA Members: $55 / Non-members: $65

Please note: Camp member discounts apply only to MODA Family Membership levels and above.
