Chasing Critters: Planning Cities for Hexbugs using LittleBits & LEGOs (Grades K-3)

  • MODA 1315 Peachtree Street Northwest Atlanta, GA, 30309 United States (map)

Come join us for a morning of creative exploration and collaboration. Together, design teams will plan unique cities for their robotic friends, the Hexbugs. They will investigate how Hexbugs interact and how they react to obstacles they encounter.

Working in teams, young designers will learn to think like urban planners as they explore what makes cities beautiful, liveable, and sustainable. Then, they’ll design cities for their Hexbug using LEGO bricks, littleBits electronic circuitry modules and sensors, and other materials from MODA’s design cart.

After their build sessions, campers will test their cities out on Hexbugs, finding out what works and what doesn’t, and then refining their designs to improve results. But the fun doesn’t stop there! MODA’s also giving your camper their very own Hexbug to take home so the exploration can continue!

Campers will learn:

  • Basic circuitry with littleBits modules
  • Basic robotic engineering using Hexbugs and littleBits
  • Fine-motor skills
  • Collaboration
  • User-centered design
  • Design thinking: defining problems, building empathy, interviewing, active listening
  • Science, technology, engineering, art, math (STEAM) and design concepts

Enrolled in this camp before? No problem! We'll pick up where you left off so your camper can keep making and learning.
