Grades 4 - 7
Monday, November 20 from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Wearable technology is everywhere – from wireless headphones to Apple Watches to AR and VR headsets. Explore this new and exciting type of design in a morning camp session about electronic textiles – a combination of electrical circuits and materials, both conductive and non-conductive!
During this camp, designers will be introduced to basic circuitry concepts using various mediums, like copper foil tape, paper clips, aluminum foil, coin cell batteries and LEDs. Campers will also learn basic sewing skills, from threading a needle to tying a knot to practicing different types of stitches. The skills they’ll acquire from both activities will serve as a foundation for a soft circuit project, in which campers will use conductive thread to add electricity to the project they design. MODA campers will be encouraged to take their projects home, in order to continue iterating.
- Learn practical sewing skills
- Understand the science behind circuits through hands-on experimentation
- Learn the properties of conductive and nonconductive materials
- Practice electrical safety
- Balance both functionality and creativity within their designs.
MODA Members: Members: $65/ Non-members: $75
