Can’t get enough of Minecraft? Curious how to take your gaming skills to the next level? Girls in grades 3 and up are invited to join us for a special, girls-only Designing with Minecraft after school program on Tuesday afternoons in September. It's a unique opportunity to design a world within Minecraft and be a part of shaping the game that everybody loves to play.
This after school program will delve into Minecraft’s expanding horizons, challenging young designers to learn the steps necessary to create 3D CAD models of Minecraft structures, to use command blocks that teach coding, to learn different aspects of a Minecraft server and to experiment with Redstone circuitry (a building tool which is used to activate or control mechanisms in Minecraft).
Minecraft servers are an integral part of the Minecraft community and allow users to collaborate and build worlds together. This summer, campers will have the opportunity to design in MODA’s Minecraft server. We will investigate the physical design of the server and learn about different types of servers and their hosting. We will work to create a safe multiplayer experience for all ages that focuses on design in its many forms -- architecture, urban design, and industrial design. By designing in the server, campers will use design thinking -- a problem-solving user-driven tool to build empathy and creativity.
Skills young designers will learn:
- how Minecraft servers work
- keyboarding and other computer skills
- design thinking
- different ways to use Minecraft
- command block coding and redstone circuitry
If your young designer attended a Minecraft camp at MODA, they'll start working where they left off. If they didn't that's fine too!
